VoiceMaster

Join-to-create temporary voice channels, owned and controlled by the member who opened them.

Overview#

VoiceMaster replaces a wall of half-empty voice channels with one. A member joins the Join to Create channel, Iris makes them a channel of their own and moves them into it, and deletes it again the moment the last person leaves.

Whoever created the channel owns it. They can rename it, cap it, lock it, hide it, and let specific people in or keep them out, either from the interface panel Iris posts or with .vcmaster commands. Nobody has to ask a moderator to make a channel.

If the owner leaves and other people are still in the channel, anyone left can claim it and take over.

Setup#

Set VoiceMaster up from the dashboard or from chat. Either way one action creates everything it needs.

  1. Open the VoiceMaster page in the dashboard and press Create channels, or run .vcmaster setup. Iris creates a category, an interface text channel, and the Join to Create voice channel. Pass an existing category (.vcmaster setup #Voice or .vcmaster setup Voice Channels) to build them there instead of making a new one.
  2. Join the new channel to check a temporary channel is created and you are moved into it.
  3. Set what new channels start with on the Settings tab: name, member limit, bitrate, region, and whether they start locked or hidden.
  4. On the Access section, pick which roles may create a channel and which role members hold while they are in one.
  5. On the Interface tab, design the panel embed and its buttons, then post it.
  6. Press Reset (or run .vcmaster reset) to remove the whole setup and every temporary channel if you want to start again.

Settings#

Server defaults live on the dashboard, and the staff commands below cover the same ground from chat. They apply to every temporary channel created afterwards.

Commands#

VoiceMaster is prefix only. It has no slash form, so .vcmaster is how every one of these is run, with your server prefix in place of the . if you changed it.

Tips and gotchas#

Joining the channel does nothing.

Iris is missing Manage Channels or Move Members, or it cannot see the category. Run .vcmaster setup again to have it report what is missing.

Someone else is in my channel and I cannot remove them.

Use .vcmaster reject <member>. It removes them and keeps them out until you permit them again.

The owner left and nobody can rename the channel.

Anyone still in it can run .vcmaster claim to take ownership.

Is there a dashboard page?

Yes. It covers setup, the defaults, role access, the interface panel design and a live list of every temporary channel. Anything per channel still belongs to its owner.
