AutoMod

Automated moderation rules and filters.

Configure AutoMod in the dashboard

Overview#

AutoMod checks every message against the filters you turn on and acts the moment one matches. Spam, mass mentions, emoji floods, shouting, banned words, links and attachments each have their own filter, their own thresholds and their own action.

Repeat offenders escalate. Turn escalation on and a member who keeps tripping filters inside the tracking period moves up your ladder on their own, from a warning to a mute to a ban, without staff having to notice the pattern.

Administrators and anyone with Manage Messages always bypass AutoMod, and you can exempt further roles and channels on top of that.

Setup#

  1. Open the dashboard and go to Moderation > AutoMod, then turn the module on.
  2. Apply a preset under Quick Setup: relaxed, balanced or strict. It fills the filters in for you.
  3. Set the Log Channel so you can see what it is catching.
  4. Add your staff roles under Bypass so they are never checked by their own rules.
  5. Open the filters you care about and adjust the thresholds, then save.
  6. Read the log for a day, then tighten or relax from real matches rather than guesses.

Filters#

Every filter is off until you turn it on, and every one ends in an action: warn, delete the message, mute as a Discord timeout, kick or ban.

Tips and gotchas#

A filter is catching normal conversation.

Raise the threshold or the minimum length rather than turning the filter off. Caps and emoji limits are the usual pair.

Staff keep getting caught.

Add their role under Bypass. Administrators and members with Manage Messages already bypass every filter.

Why is there a separate anti-link module?

The link filter here handles the common cases. Anti-link adds invite blocking, NSFW blocking, per-channel exemptions and its own enforcement log.

Do escalation steps reset?

Yes. Violations age out after the tracking period, 86400 seconds by default.
