Using the dashboard
Finding your server, saving changes, and what the dashboard does that chat cannot.
Overview#
The dashboard is where every module is configured. It is the same settings the chat commands read, so a change made here is live in Discord the moment you save, and a change made in chat shows here on the next load.
Anything with more than two settings is faster here: embed designers with a live preview, panel and form builders, colour pickers, and the activity and ticket statistics that chat has no way to draw.
Signing in#
- Press Dashboard, then sign in with Discord.
- Approve the read-only request for your account and your server list.
- Pick a server from the list. Only servers where you hold Manage Server appear.
- If the server has no Iris yet, it is listed under Not added yet with an invite button beside it.
Finding your way around#
- The server name at the top left is a switcher. Use it to jump between servers without going back.
- The left rail lists every module, grouped as Community, Moderation, Engagement, Notifications and Server.
- Overview is the landing page: message, reaction, voice and communicator totals over the last day, week or month, your busiest channels, and a card per module with an on or off badge.
- The breadcrumb above each module page carries a Docs link straight to that module page here.
Saving changes#
Nothing is written until you press save. Change any control and a save bar appears at the foot of the page with Save Changes and Discard. Leaving the page with unsaved changes asks you to confirm first.
Applying a preset or a template does not save either. It fills the form so you can review it, then you save.
When Iris is offline#
A banner at the top of the dashboard says so. Settings pages still load and save, because they read the database directly. Anything that has to ask the running bot, such as the live channel and role pickers, ticket statistics or a test message, is unavailable until it reconnects. Check status if the banner stays up.
Common questions#
My server is not in the list.
You need Manage Server in it, and the list is cached briefly after you sign in. Reload once, then check the role in Discord.
It says access denied on a server I manage.
Your permission changed after you signed in. Sign out and back in to refresh the server list.
A channel or role is missing from a picker.
The pickers are filled by the running bot, so it must be online and able to see the channel. A channel Iris cannot view is not offered.
Do I have to use the dashboard at all?
No. Every module has chat commands, listed on its docs page. The dashboard is the faster path, not the only one.
