Plans and billing

What the paid plans change, what stays free, and how a subscription is bought, managed and cancelled.

Overview#

Every module in Iris is on every plan, including the free one. Paying does not unlock a feature, switch a module on, or remove a lock screen. It raises the ceilings on how many of a thing one server may have, keeps history for longer, and removes the sponsored slots from your verification page.

That is a deliberate shape. Iris shipped free with no ceilings at all, and a plan that took a working feature away from a server that already relies on it would be a takeaway dressed as a launch. The free ceilings are set above what an ordinary server actually uses.

The plans#

PlanPer monthWhat it is for
Free£0.00Every module, with ceilings sized for an ordinary server.
Premium£2.99A server that has outgrown one ceiling. About three times the room, a month of backups, and no sponsored slots.
Premium+£5.99A busy community running several systems at once. About eight times the free ceilings, three months of backups.
Premium++£9.99A network that should never meet a ceiling. Nothing counted at all, and a full year of history.

Billing is monthly, in pounds, through Stripe. A subscription entitles one Discord server, not an account: it is bought by an administrator of that server from the dashboard, and it stays with the server if that person later leaves.

What a ceiling does#

A ceiling applies when you make something new. It never applies retroactively, and nothing is ever deleted for sitting above one.

  • Under the ceiling: everything works as normal.
  • At the ceiling: creating another one of that thing is refused, and the message says which plan raises it.
  • Above the ceiling, because you dropped to a lower plan: what you already have keeps running. You can keep it, edit it, and remove it. You cannot add more until you are back under.

History windows work the same way in spirit but are not indefinite: backups and audit log entries are kept for the number of days your plan allows, and entries older than that window are swept in the nightly retention run. Drop a plan and the shorter window starts applying to old entries.

Subscribing#

  1. Open the dashboard and pick the server you want to put on a plan. You need Manage Server there, and Iris has to be in it.

  2. Go to Billing and choose a plan. The server is named on the checkout page, so there is no way to pay for the wrong one by accident.

  3. Pay at Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's own page and never reach Iris.

  4. You are returned to the dashboard and the plan is live within a second or two. It does not wait for the bot to restart.

Changing or cancelling#

Both are done from Billing on the dashboard, which opens the Stripe billing portal for that server. From there you can change plan, update the card, read invoices, or cancel.

A cancellation runs to the end of the month you have already paid for rather than cutting off when you click it. The dashboard shows the date the plan actually ends. There is no minimum term and no cancellation fee.

Refunds: a first payment for a server can be refunded in full within 14 days. After that a month already started is not normally refundable. The Refund and Cancellation Policy is the full version, including duplicate charges, failed payments and chargebacks.

The web verification page carries a small number of ad slots, shown to members of servers on the free plan and removed on every paid plan. They are sold by us directly, one advertiser at a time.

They are never an ad network, and that is not a style preference. The verification page fingerprints the visitor's browser and tells them their IP is not stored in a readable form; loading somebody else's tracking script onto that page would make the promise untrue.

Questions#

Is any module paid-only?

No. Every module is on every plan. Paying changes how much of each thing you can have and how long history is kept, never which features exist.

I pay for one server. Do my other servers get anything?

No. A plan entitles the one server it was bought for. Each server you want on a plan is its own subscription.

Who can buy and manage the plan?

Any administrator of the server, from the dashboard. The person who set it up is the one Stripe bills, but if they leave, another administrator can take over managing it.

What happens to the plan if Iris is removed from the server?

The subscription is unaffected and keeps billing until it is cancelled, so cancel it in the billing portal if you are removing Iris for good. Add Iris back and the plan is still attached to that server.

Does Iris see my card details?

No. Checkout and the billing portal are Stripe's own pages. Iris stores which plan a server is on, the Stripe customer and subscription ids, and when the period ends. Nothing else.

What currency am I charged in?

Pounds sterling, monthly. Your bank converts it if your card is in another currency.

The plans page says there is no paid tier yet.

Then there is not one yet, and everything is unlimited in the meantime. That page reads the live switch rather than a piece of copy, so it is telling you the truth about right now.
