Danger Zone
Reset a module to its defaults, and move a whole configuration between servers.
Overview#
The Danger Zone is the one page that destroys settings rather than editing them, and the one that moves them between servers. It is three things on a single console: Reset, Export and Import. All three start from the same question, which modules, so they share one selector and only the action at the foot changes.
Export is the reason to come here even when nothing is wrong. A configuration you spent an evening on becomes a file you can keep, and the same file sets up a second server in one action instead of an evening.
Reset#
Resetting a module puts its settings back to the defaults a fresh server starts with. The module is not deleted and nothing else on the server is touched, so a module you reset can simply be set up again.
-
Open the dashboard and go to Danger Zone at the foot of the left rail.
-
Stay on Reset, and tick the modules to reset. They are grouped by category, and nothing is ticked to begin with.
-
Press the reset button and confirm the list in the dialog.
-
Read the results panel: it reports every module separately, so a failure is visible rather than silent.
Export#
An export is a JSON file holding the settings of the modules you picked. Every module is selected by default, so the usual export is one press.
-
Switch the console to Export.
-
Leave every module ticked for a full backup, or untick down to the ones you want.
-
Download saves a file named
iris-settings-<server>-<date>.json, and Copy puts the same JSON on your clipboard.
Import#
Import reads an export back, either into the server it came from or into a different one. The file is checked before anything is written: Iris tells you which server it came from, when it was taken, and which modules it holds, and you pick which of those to apply.
-
Switch the console to Import.
-
Choose the exported file, or paste the JSON if you copied it instead.
-
Read the summary. Modules in the file that this version of Iris does not support are named and skipped.
-
Untick anything you do not want applied.
-
Decide on Keep channel and role ids from the file, then confirm.

Commands#
The Danger Zone is dashboard only, and deliberately so. A chat command that wipes a server configuration is a chat command somebody runs by accident.
Permissions#
Nothing extra for Iris. You need Manage Server to open the dashboard for the server, which is the same permission every other page checks.
Tips and gotchas#
Can I undo a reset?
No. The only way back is an export taken beforehand, which is why the page presses you to take one.
Does resetting a module turn it off?
It goes back to its shipping defaults, and most modules ship off. Nothing outside that module changes.
The import ran but the module points at nothing.
The file came from another server and Keep channel and role ids was off, which is correct. Open the module and pick this server's channels and roles.
Some modules were skipped on import.
They are not supported by this version of Iris, or the export could not read them in the first place. Both are named rather than passed over silently.
Can I move settings from a server I do not manage?
Only if somebody who manages it sends you the export. Iris will not read another server's configuration on your behalf.
