Early access and invite codes
Iris is in invite-only beta. How to get a server in, how to invite others, what each level gets, and the discount that outlives it.
Getting in, in three steps#
-
Get a code. Every server that is in gets codes to hand out. Ask a server owner who already has Iris, or follow an invite link somebody sent you. No luck? Join the waitlist at /early.
-
Add Iris to your server. You need Administrator there. Iris joins locked and posts a message saying it is waiting for a code.
-
Redeem the code. Run
/redeem <code>in the server, or open /early, pick the server and press Redeem. The server unlocks straight away, in Discord and on the dashboard.
Inviting someone else#
- When you redeem a code you get codes of your own. Run
/betain Discord, or open /early, to see them at any time. - Each code has an invite link (
/i/CODE). Send the link rather than the code: it opens the redeem page with the code already filled in, and walks them through adding Iris if they have not. - Each code unlocks one server, once. Once it is used, /early shows which server it went to.
- Each person can unlock one server with a code. Your codes are for other people. If you run a second server, ask another administrator of it to redeem a code there.
Overview#
Iris does not open to everybody at once. It opens to a small group of founder servers, picked from their applications, each of which gets the top plan free for a few months and a handful of single-use codes to pass to owners they personally know. Those people get a plan and codes of their own, and so on, down to a depth limit.
Anyone without a code can join the public waitlist at /early. Everybody on that list before public launch keeps a reward, whether or not a code ever reaches them.
Ways in#
- An invite code. Given to you personally by somebody who already has Iris, or sent as a short
/i/CODElink. Codes are not handed out on request. - The waitlist. Open to everyone at /early while the campaign is running. Sign in with Discord and pick the server you want Iris on; it takes a few seconds and costs nothing. If you are accepted, Iris DMs you a code for that server, worth the same as any other code.
- A founder application. Server owners can apply to be one of the founder servers at /early/founders. If yours is picked, a founder code appears on your early access page, ready to redeem.
- Public launch. Once the campaign phase is open, the invite link works for everybody and no code is needed.
Redeeming a code#
A code is spent on a server, not on a person. Whoever holds it decides which server gets the plan, and the two ways to redeem write to the same place, so it makes no difference which you use.
-
Make sure Iris is already in the server, and that you are an administrator of it.
-
In Discord, run
/redeemin that server and paste the code. The reply is only visible to you. -
Or, on the website, sign in at /early, pick the server from your list and enter the code there.
-
The plan is attached immediately, and any codes you have earned appear on /early for you to hand out.
/redeem <code>Spends an invite code on the server the command was run in, which unlocks it. The reply is private, so unused codes never end up in a public channel. Administrator/betaWhether this server has beta access, your invite codes with their share links, and how many servers you have brought in. Always private. Everyone
Codes are written to be typed by somebody who is half paying attention. They are eight characters after an IRIS prefix, with no character pairs that look alike, and both the prefix and any dashes are optional when you enter one.
What each cohort gets#
Every code is worth the same, however many times it has been passed on, and everybody who redeems one gets three of their own. During the beta a code gets your server in with every feature unlocked; the free months start on public launch day, so none of them are spent during the beta.
Everybody in the table also gets 50 percent off their first paid month, and founders keep a permanent listing on the wall of founders on /early.
The discount#
The discount is attached the moment you join the waitlist or redeem a code, and it stays attached until you spend it. It is not a window, it does not expire with the free months, and there is nothing to remember.
- It is attached to your account as well as the server, so if you earned it on one server and later pay for a different one, you still have it.
- It is applied automatically at checkout. There is no code to type.
- It is spent only when a payment actually succeeds. Opening a checkout page and closing it again costs you nothing.
- It covers one month, once. After that month the plan renews at its normal price.
When the free months end#
Seven days before a free period ends, Iris sends the server owner a direct message saying what is about to change, what the plan costs and where their discount is. Three days out there is a second, shorter one. After that, nothing: two messages is a reminder, four is spam.
If nothing is bought, the server simply drops to Free. Nothing is deleted, nothing breaks, and anything above a free ceiling stays where it is and keeps working. See plans and billing for exactly what a ceiling does.
Why redemption might be refused#
Questions#
Can I get a code by asking?
No, and asking does not move you up the waitlist. The only two ways in are a personal invitation from somebody who holds codes, and the public waitlist.
Can I sell or give away a code?
A code is bound to nothing until it is redeemed, so giving it away is exactly what it is for. Passing them to owners you actually know is the point of the whole thing.
I joined the waitlist. When do I get something?
If you are accepted, Iris DMs you a code for your server: redeem it and you get what anyone with a code gets, Premium+ free for 2 months from launch and three codes of your own. If you are still on the list at public launch, a 30 day Premium+ trial is applied to the server you nominated instead. Your discount is attached to your account from the moment you sign up either way.
Can I change which server I nominated?
Yes, from /early, any time before the reward is applied. Your position in the queue does not move.
Do I need a payment card to redeem a code?
No. A comped plan is applied directly, with no card, no checkout and nothing that renews into a charge.
What happens to my founder listing after launch?
It stays. The wall of founders is permanent, the badge stays, and the free months keep running to their own end date regardless of what the campaign does afterwards.
My code worked but the server is still on Free.
Check you redeemed on the server you meant: the plan goes to the server the command was run in, not to the server you administrate most. The dashboard billing page names the plan and its end date for each server.
