Forms

Application forms with staff review and approval.

Configure Forms in the dashboard

Overview#

Forms turns an application into a button. A member presses Apply, Iris asks your questions one at a time over direct message, and the finished answers arrive in your review channel as a single embed with Approve and Deny beneath it.

Because the questions are asked over DM rather than in a Discord modal, there is no length limit on a question or an answer, and a form can run to 20 questions without the member losing their place.

Approving can hand out a role and send the applicant a message. Denying can ask the reviewer for a reason and pass it on. Every submission is kept under Submissions, with volume and outcome charts under Statistics.

Setup#

  1. Open the dashboard and go to Community > Forms, then turn the module on.
  2. Press New form and name it. The designer opens on Form Basics.
  3. Pick the channel the apply panel is posted in.
  4. Write your questions on Questions, marking the optional ones as not required.
  5. Style the panel on Appearance: the embed, the apply button label and its colour.
  6. Set the review channel, reviewer roles and what approval grants on Review & Outcomes.
  7. Save, then post the panel.

Staff application

Submitted by @applicant

Why do you want to apply?

I moderate two other servers and I am on daily.

What timezone are you in?

GMT, usually around in the evenings.

The apply panel, and a finished application waiting on review.

Tips and gotchas#

A member says the bot never messaged them.

Their DMs are closed to server members. They have to allow direct messages from this server, then press apply again.

Can I run more than one form?

Yes. Staff applications, partner requests and event signups can each be their own form with their own reviewers.

Approval did not grant the role.

The role sits above Iris in the role list. Drag Iris above it.

Can applicants edit an answer?

Not once submitted. Deny it with a reason, and let them apply again after the cooldown.
