Auto Roles

Automatically assign roles to new members.

Overview#

Auto roles hands out roles the moment somebody joins. There is no reaction to press and nothing for the member to do: they arrive already holding the roles you picked.

Pick as many roles as you like and all of them are applied together. Bots get their own list, and you can hold the roles back for a delay, until the rules screen is accepted, or from accounts that are too new.

Setup#

  1. Drag Iris above every role you want it to hand out, in Server Settings > Roles.

  2. Open the dashboard and go to Community > Auto Roles.

  3. Turn on Enable Auto Roles.

  4. Pick the roles under Roles for new members, and optionally Roles for bots.

  5. Check What happens on join on the right: it flags any role Iris cannot give.

  6. Set the timing and logging you want, then save.

Tips and gotchas#

New members get nothing.

Open the dashboard page and read the setup check. It names the missing piece: the module off, no roles picked, a missing permission, or a role above Iris. Also check the delay and the minimum account age.

Do bots get the roles too?

Only if you pick roles under Roles for bots. Bots never get the member roles.

Can I give different roles to different members?

Not here. Self roles lets members pick, and forms grants a role on approval.
